Six U.S. Forest Service campgrounds serve the reservoir — five ring the north and east shores, with a sixth up the Pine River drainage beyond them: shaded, quiet, vault toilets, mostly no hookups, booked on recreation.gov — some reservable, some first-come. Want full hookups, a hot shower, or a long stay? That's what the valley's private RV parks are for. Both are on the map below.
Book early for July weekends. Reservable sites open on a rolling 6-month window and fill fast for summer holidays; first-come sites often fill by Friday morning. Midweek and September are far easier.

Twenty-four sites at the Pine River inlet at the quiet north end, first-come only — and the basecamp for the drive up Middle Mountain (FR 724). Pick this one if you are bringing a machine, or you want the far end of the lake.

Just up from the lake, RVs to 40 ft, and the one that still has room when the shoreline loops are full. Pick this one if you are arriving Friday afternoon without a reservation.

The small, far one — six sites at the end of FR 602, four miles past Middle Mountain, looking up the Pine River valley. First-come, first-served only: you drive up and claim a site. Bring all your water.

The big one — 80 sites in four loops along Vallecito Creek, right at the wilderness edge, with three electric sites (rare up here) and RVs to 45 ft. Pick this one if you want a trailhead at the end of your street, or you need power.
